Enjoy a cup of JavaVino's herbal tea or a glass of wine, meet new friends, or reconnect with your favorite WIB colleagues while discussing Arianna Huffington’s new book
The Sleep Revolution – Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time.
We will share our collective biological knowledge in an advanced study of the science of sleep. According to the book, women need more sleep than men, so the lack of sleep has even more negative mental and physical effects on them. Huffington explains researchers have found that for women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depression, and anger. Now that women are entering the workforce in droves, the demands on their time have become greater, especially for those also managing a family. According to the founder of the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic, “Working mothers who have young children at home have seen an additional 241 hours of work and commuting time added to their lives annually since 1969.” The only thing left to give up is sleep. Women are tired, sleep-deprived, and exhausted. They continue to work hard, both at home and the office or lab, but are accomplishing less because they are just plain tuckered out.
“Arianna shows that sleep is not just vital for our health, but also critical to helping us achieve our goals. Sometimes we need to sleep in to lean in!” – Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and author of Lean In.
