WIB - DC/Baltimore Chapter Holiday Gala
The WIB-DC/Baltimore chapter Holiday Gala on December 17, 2014, was a huge success and a great way to kick off the holiday season. We thank all of our members, non-members, and sponsors who attended the event. In particular, we would like to congratulate the winner of the 2014 Robbie Melton Scholarship award, Maria Sosa. All in all, the holiday gala provided a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones while fostering strong relationships within our local biotech community. We look forward to seeing you at our next event in 2015!
YWIB Committee Attends ATLAS Event
The WIB-DC/Baltimore YWIB committee attended the MdBio Foundation's ATLAS event on November 8, 2014, and the event was quite a success! Event volunteers brought giveaways including YWIB bracelets, pins and candy, as well as information on the committee itself and future YWIB events. Many students came out to explore career and educational opportunities in STEM, and were able to visit various tables representing businesses, universities, and groups like WIB! There was nonstop attendee traffic at the YWIB table for the entire ninety minutes of the exposition period. Attendees talked to the event volunteers--including both professional women in biotechnology and current students in the life sciences--to learn about YWIB and discuss STEM careers.

WIB-Atlanta Presents: Be Your Personal Best While Networking
Gracefully networking with others is no easy task. Many of us have faced challenges remembering names and keeping conversations running smoothly. Consider improving your networking performance on January 28, 2015, with a professional etiquette workshop with Peggy Newfield, founder and president of Personal Best, Inc. Ms. Newfield will give us important tips on how to initiate and end conversations gracefully, how to be engaging, and how to work a room. Many other topics will be covered, including ways to pass out your business cards while holding plates/glasses. Come out and achieve your personal best. You will make new contacts and leave feeling better prepared for managing future networking events.

WIB–San Francisco Bay Area Mentors, Advisors and Peers Program Needs Mentors!
Are you an experienced and successful woman in the world of Bio? Are you interested in mentoring? WIB-San Francisco Bay Area offers a MAPs program that provides 1:1 mentoring for young women who are recent graduates or in early to middle stages of their careers. Mentors and Mentees are paired based on common interests, and then meet at mutually convenient times. Mentees typically look for advice in either career development, transitioning to an alternative career, work/family balance, promoting women at work, managing a team, or the entrepreneurial process. WIB-Southern California Ends 2014 with Style
Good company, impressive venue, delicious food, live music, and theme of giving back were the themes of WIB-Southern California’s December 10, 2014, Holiday Party. The great food, fine beverages, and mingling with over 60 attendees made for lots of fun and good cheer for all! Special thanks to those who donated clothes to Laura’s House, a non-profit organization that provides unduplicated domestic violence-related services to the residents of Orange County, California and beyond. We collected enough clothes to fill an entire car! Additionally, wonderful silent auction prizes included Disney Theme Park and San Diego Zoo tickets, dinner at local restaurants, sports memorabilia, and handmade jewelry, resulting in a significant amount of money raised for upcoming Young Women In Bio programs.

2015 promises to be exciting for WIB-Metro New York. WIB-Greater Boston Celebrates the Holidays with Simone Fishburn and Annalisa Jenkins
On December 10, 2014, WIB-Greater Boston closed the year with a holiday party while hearing from two WIB leaders, Simone Fishburn and Annalisa Jenkins. Simone and Annalisa shared their experiences of rising through the ranks in the industry, and provided many “secrets to success,” from the importance of networking to letting go of preconceptions.
