Shannon is currently a scientist in NanoString's molecular diagnostics development group. Previously, she founded and managed the Exploration Program for Industry Careers (EPIC) for students and postdocs at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  She holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UW/FHCRC and a BA in Biology from Lewis and Clark College.

Katie has eight years of experience working in the life sciences and is passionate about innovation in healthcare and life sciences. She has worked in lung biology research laboratories, developed a business plan for a pediatric obesity clinic, and consulted in market research and product development for life science technologies. Currently, Katie works as a Market Analyst on the Business Development and Industry Relations team at Fred Hutch. She received her M.S. in Health Care Management from the Simon Business School, a certificate in Biotechnology Project Management from the University of Washington, and her B.S. in Biological Sciences and Psychology from The College at Brockport, State University of New York. Katie actively volunteers with the Association for Women in Science, the Seattle Health Innovators group, and with other local STEM organizations in the community. 

Name:  Ingrid Durenberger

Ingrid has over 15 years of experience in the biological sciences, including preclinical bench research in immunology, applied toxicology, working with clinical site data for immuno-oncology trials, and currently as a Clinical Data Manager for HIV vaccine trials at Fred Hutch HIV Vaccine Trials Network.  She is committed to ensuring that the highest quality data are produced to achieve the goal of bringing an HIV vaccine to market. Ingrid is a Puget Sound native who holds a B.S. in Biology from Seattle University and an M.S. in Toxicology from the University of Washington. She enjoys meeting people and learning about current research in biosciences academia as well as what is going on in the vibrant local biotechnology industry. She is excited about serving on the Communications Committee to help promote WIB-Seattle Metro programs and activities.  

Name:  Sonya Trejo

Sonya currently works as technical and regulatory writer for the process engineering team at Juno Therapeutics. She has manufacturing engineering experience in both biotech and medical device companies, from IVDs to cosmetic applications of ultrasound. She received her BS in Biology, MS in Pharmacology, and certificate in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs from the University of Washington. Previously, Sonya worked in the first internet startups of Silicon Valley as a quality analyst. She is excited to see the convergence of biotechnology and software technology. 

Name:  Stephanie Tatem Murphy

Stephanie is currently a Project Manager at SEngine Precision Medicine within the Institute for Systems Biology. She has a M.S. in molecular biology from Univ. Illinois at Chicago and is involved with other local STEM groups. Her lab experience spans through three biotechnology companies incorporating next generation DNA sequencing and bioinformatics studies totaling 6 years. Her work as a LIMS product liaison between customers, software developers and business groups has developed her database and system administrator skills along with writing functional requirements, performing QA/QC software testing, implementing CLIA requirements, and presenting technical demonstrations. Stephanie’s management experience includes multiple grants, such as, co-principal investigator for an NSF Advanced Technological Education at the University of California-Davis and the U.S. Dept. of Labor grant at Bellevue College. She has taught bioinformatics and biology at American River College, Seattle Central, and Bellevue College.

She has led cross functional project teams throughout the organization to streamline workflows, improve systems and procedures, save time, preserve resources and consistently deliver quality results. Janet was born and raised in Seattle. She is an adventurous traveler, enjoys hiking, bicycling, yoga, meditation…getting together with old friends and making new friends.

Ariana Marcassa (https://www.linkedin.com/in/amarcassa) holds an MSc degree in bacterial molecular genetics from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Canada. Ariana's scientific specialities are protein expression and purification; so far, her research experiences have been deeply rooted in molecular biology. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Ariana works in the Immune Monitoring Core. Here, Ariana creates custom protein reagents used around the world in support T cell research and immuno-oncology therapies. 

Name:  Dominika Trembecka-Lucas

Dominika is a scientist with a keen interest in tech startups, SciComm and the great outdoors. She did her PhD work Cell Biophysics and is passionate about developing microscopy technology. She studied DNA damage and repair mechanisms using advanced fluorescence measurements. She also has over 8 years of experience in image and data analysis. 

Dominika is an experienced science communicator and project manager who was involved in two startups. She delivered SciComm training to PhD students and post docs. In her free time Dominika enjoys what PNW nature has to offer, especially mountain and water related sports. She also enjoys making music with her family. She is trilingual: English, Polish and Portuguese.

As a Business Development Manager at Kelly Scientific Resources, Lisann (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisann) connects Seattle area labs with top scientific and clinical talent. In her position, she enjoys meeting scientists from diverse industries and learning about a broad range of scientific work. Lisann received her B.S. in Chemistry from Mills College. At Mills she organized the Russell Women in Science Lecture series, an annual event that features a prominent woman in science who inspires students and the public through her life and work. Lisann has previously worked as an analytical chemist at The Clorox Company and the Savannah River National Laboratory.

Sophia has over ten years of experience working in the Seattle area biotechnology industry. She gained broad industry expertise from working in various aspects of drug development including preclinical research, process development, and most recently, clinical development. After a decade of developing discovery stage biologics at Amgen in the laboratory, she is excited about bringing clinical stage products to market in her current role as Regulatory Affairs Associate at Gilead.  Sophia received her B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia (Canada) and her M.Sc. in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs from the University of Washington. She would love to see Seattle thrive as a hotbed for biotechnology innovation and believes that organizations such as WIB can be catalysts for connecting people and ideas.

Quyen has over six years of experience in the life sciences and holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has worked in stem cell biology, developmental processes, molecular biology, 3D printing, and next generation sequencing.  Quyen is passionate about education, participating in events such as Saturday Science and Engineering Expo. She has also organized in-class and evening events to encourage science education in under-served schools. She is proud to continue this effort with Young Women In Bio to encourage girls to pursue their interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Chelsea received her B.S. in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Fontbonne University. She has over ten years of experience in pre-clinical research and lab and study management in large and small companies and academia. Her primary focus has been on in vivo modeling for oncology research, which she brings to her current position at Gilead. She is happy to have been recommended to WIB and all it has to offer women in the life sciences.  Chelsea is passionate about mentoring, so being involved with YWIB is the perfect fit! Chelsea loves living in Seattle and enjoys all the hiking, backpacking and biking the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Yang is an engineer by training and life scientist by heart.  She obtained her PhD in Engineering from the University of New Mexico and had over 10 years of experiences in laboratory automation, early-stage drug discovery, and development of innovated technology. Yang is passionate about sharing her technical skills, biological research interests, and project management skills with her community, and actively involved in other STEM organizations such as the Society of Laboratory Automation and Screening, Annual Course in Cytometry, and Association for Women in Science.

Laura is a Ph.D. scientist who works in the Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutch. She has research experience in molecular, cell and developmental biology. Her current research is focused on learning more about how cells are organized in the context of development. Throughout her career she has recognized the importance of mentoring and led the development of a mentoring program for Hutch United, an organization at Fred Hutch focused on diversity and inclusion. In her WIB board role she hopes to help WIB sustain a robust peer mentoring program to support women in Seattle. She is from California and received her Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz and B.S. from UC Davis.

Kim is a research scientist interested in bacterial pathogens and how our immune system defends against them. She is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason with previous experience at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH, Bethesda, MD) and Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD). Kim is committed to introducing young people to the fun and challenge of a career in science, through scientific outreach and teaching. She is excited to help Seattle-area women in biology connect through WiB MAPs Groups this year.

Monica holds a Laurea Magistrale (MSc) in Chemistry from the University of Naples in Italy, where she completed her thesis on the structure- based design and NMR characterization of Novel immunosuppressive cyclic peptides. Before her degree, Monica worked as Project Administrative Assistant at the University of Naples. Her background then led her to Canada where she worked at the University of Victoria’s collaborating with the Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Microbiology acting as a Research and Teaching Assistant.

Seeking greater challenges and opportunities, she earned a Diploma in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting and a Certificate in Business Management. Monica has attained an understanding of project development and the ability to collaborate successfully with diverse stakeholders. Over the past few years, she has been working in Client Service Management focused on international customers and providing technical and customer support.

Monica has volunteered the chapter since 2014, acting as a leader for a MAPs group and recently as part of the Treasury. She is passionate about leading her group, building a network of peer support, motivation, and appreciation. She is also trilingual (fluent in English, Italian and Spanish), enjoys living in the Northwest, and exploring the outdoors.

Andrea has over ten years of experience in the regulated research environment, including two major preclinical contract research organizations, the eye bank industry, as a regulatory specialist supporting clinical, preclinical, and biosafety projects, and a clinical contract research organization. Currently, she serves as the program manager for Translational Research at NanoString Technologies maintaining over 75 projects. She is enthusiastic about the operational side of the scientific industry, having served as project and personnel manager while bringing online a new autoradiography lab at MPI Research. Andrea received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a certificate in Biotechnology Project Management from the University of Washington. She is passionate about her community and has diverse involvement in other organizations including Junior League, Lean In, Association of Women in Science, and other local STEM groups.

Jolene believes that it is important for women to create a strong professional network and she is excited to be a part of WIB-Seattle’s encouraging environment. Being a northwest native, Jolene had her eye on the University of Washington to further her education, where she earned her B.S. in Microbiology. Jolene began her research career developing a diagnostic assay for an endemic fish virus before moving on to work with a group designing a vaccine for HIV. Although her interest in viruses is what got her excited about the field of Microbiology, she is energized to find ways to use her skills to help advance medicine for patient care. As a research associate at NanoString, Jolene is excited to contribute to the development of diagnostic tools that will translate into treatment, providing patients with the best care available. Some of Jolene’s favorite pastimes include relaxing with her husband and chocolate lab, planning her next vacation destination, meeting new people, and having long conversations with good friends.
