Volunteer Leadership: The Core of WIB
Women In Bio is almost entirely run by member volunteer leaders, from the President and Board to the Chapter chairs and committees. Whether you prefer to get involved with a finite, limited project such as running a local event, or to help build our non-profit organization at a local or national level, we have skill building positions for you that provide concrete accomplishments for your resume. As a WIB leader, you will have the chance to closely network with other women in the life science industry from across North America, giving you an edge when pursuing new job opportunities.
Leaders can work with their local chapters. Most leaders join a committee, while some help out with special projects.
The chapter committees and leadership positions include:
- Communications Committee
- Membership Committee
- Programs (Events) Committee
- Sponsorship (Funding) Committee
- Young Women In Bio Committee
- EWIB Committee
- MAPS Committee (not all chapters)
- Treasurer (not all chapters)
Read about each committee’s responsibilities here.

WIB has expanded rapidly over the last few years from a local support group for entrepreneurs in Washington DC, to a national organization for women across the life sciences industry.
We now include chapters across North America, supported by over 4,000 members and an outreach of over 17,000 subscribers.
Our members and supporters span all sectors of the life sciences, including biotech, pharma, academia, philanthropic organizations, law and accounting firms, and service providers such as CROs and CMOs.

Women In Bio is an organization of professionals committed to promoting careers, leadership, and entrepreneurship for all women in the life sciences.
We are an organization of professional women from all career walks in the field of life sciences. We are all volunteers and we all share the goal of enabling and empowering women to reach the highest levels of leadership, and — more importantly — to fulfill their own career aspirations.
Our members reflect the increasing spread of the life sciences. We belong to biotech and pharma companies, universities and institutes, law and accounting firms, marketing and PR firms, CROs, and CMOs. Many of our members are entrepreneurs, and a focus on entrepreneurship has remained core to WIB’s mission.
WIB’s primary focus is to provide women-to-women mentorship and leadership support through all stages of career development
